On 21st October, more than one hundred riders converged on the idealic setting of the Margaret River region (WA), for the inaugural Cape to Cape mountain bike event.

Covering 170km from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste, the four-day event provided challenges for all levels of riders; some albeit unexpected… just ask the two South African riders that could not resist stopping for a wine tasting midway through stage two, as the course passed through the stunning grounds of Leeuwin Estate Winery.

Among the fun and countless individual achievements where an elite group of riders that turned ‘the ride into a race’ each day; taking to the undulating, sandy and rain effected track with little self-regard.

Stage honours where split between 2008 World Solo 24 hour Mountain Bike Champion James “Willow” Williamson, and Rohin Adams in the men’s division; while Niki Fisher (National XC Series Champion 2005) headed the female division that included talented event ambassador Niki Gudex.

Ascend Team riders Ash Thomas and Jason Jackson; did us proud (both on and off the bike) taking out second and fourth respectively on day three – well done boys!.

The Ascend Recovery tent proved a great hit, providing an excellent opportunity to introduce our newest Proven Sports Protein products, Muscle (Choc) and Recovery (Choc Mint) bars, and a prototype 500mL ready-to-drink product.  The feedback was fantastic as Ash noted on his blog “Plenty of people were going out of their way to come over and mention how much better they were feeling the next day, so there is something to it!”

In answer to the many requests; the bars will be available online before the end of November; rolling out in select gyms, specialist cycling & triathlon stores soon after that.  The drinks are still a work in progress with manufacturing, to ensure that when they reach you our unique proteins are still fully functional – so stay tuned!
